Our Faith Beliefs
If you 'd rather not read through all of our beliefs below, here's a simple statement that should some up what we believe:
At Melach Tov we believe that 100% of the Bible is 100% Truth, and that it is all still relevant today. We believe that God is the same forever, and we expect God to be the same today as he was in the beginning, as he demonstrated in his Son Jesus, the Word of God, and as he showed himself through Jesus in the early church -- the first and only pattern we believe is foundational for what it looks like to be saved and to live saved in Jesus Christ. This belief means that we expect that God will move in power the same today as he did then, and we should expect such because it's in God's character to display his love (and confirm his Word) through his power.
At Melach Tov, We Believe
God is absolutely good, and that he does the same things today that Jesus himself did nearly 2000 years ago... and even greater things! (John 1:50)
There is one and only one God, יהוה (YHWH), who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintains love to thousands and forgives wickedness and rebellion and sin... yet who is also perfectly just. (Exo 34:6-7) We believe in the God of the Bible.
Jesus Christ of Nazereth is God himself come to us in the flesh... the Son of God, the Son of Man (referencing prophecies of Daniel), the Son of David (a Messianic title), the promised Immanuel.
Our one God has shown himself in three persons - as God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one with one another while being distinct at the same time. They are one, they are in communion, and they honor one another.
Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father. (John 14:6)
Jesus Christ is the perfect representation of God the Father. To know Jesus is to know and see the Father. (John 14:7)
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17), and the focus of all scripture.
Jesus Christ is, was, and is to come. All things were created by him and through him, and in him they are held together. (Rev 4:11, Col 1:16-17)
Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin and lived a life without sin. Though innocent, he died a guilty man's death on a cross to become our sin that we may be free from the bondage of sin. He put sin to death when he died for us, and he rose in resurrection life three days later - appearing to his disciples again in the flesh (and many other people) for forty days until he ascended into heaven. Having ascended into heaven, he now sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty from whom he came.
Though he came to give life rather than to condemn mankind, Jesus is Lord over all and he will ultimately judge all.
Jesus Christ will one day return again just as he has promised.
Jesus Christ holds the keys to death and hades, and all authority in heaven and earth belongs to him.
Jesus Christ has sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and with us, and to teach us all things.
We can do nothing apart from Jesus Christ. On our own we cannot live a redeemed life. Only by his Holy Spirit can we be empowered to live in the redemption to which we have been called.
We must be reborn of the Spirit of God to receive eternal life.
We must be clothed with power from on high through the baptism of Holy Spirit and fire to be empowered with the power of God to attain to the full measure of our calling.
Holy Spirit and his gifts are alive, active, and essential today. We need the fruit of Holy Spirit, and we also need the gifts of Holy Spirit. We need the power of Holy Spirit in us and also the power of Holy Spirit on us and through us. Holy Spirit and all he does testifies of Jesus, just as Jesus testifies of the Father.
Healing is for today. Deliverance is for today. Resurrection of the dead is for today. Prophecy is for today. These did not end with the biblical canon, and they do not exist solely to reach unreached peoples. Instead, these are part of the gospel - that gospel which is Jesus.
The canonized Christian Bible is the inspired and inerrant written word of God. It is our authoritative scripture. It is the plumb line against which all other beliefs are measured. It is God's declared written word and God will never contradict his word or rescind his word. Beliefs found to be in conflict with this Biblical scripture must submit and conform to the truth of scripture.
